Great workout

July 6, 2010

Today I had a great workout. It’s actually the second great workout this week.

Monday was Chest and Tri’s. All were 3 sets of 10 reps. Preceded by a 5 minute jog to warm up and full body stretch.

Bench Press, Incline Dumb Bell Press, Pec Deck, Decline Cable Press

Dips, Overhead extensions, Tricep Pull downs. Followed by a full body stretch.

Today was Back and Biceps. 3 x 10′s again.

Lat Pulldown, Seated row, Bent over row, Close grip pull downs

Barbell curl, Hammer curl, Alternating DB curl.

Why am I documenting this? Well to be honest, it’s really because I have the bug and I can’t stop thinking about the gym. I love getting to the point of addiction. I’ve spent the past two weeks poring over workouts, drills and other things for my business White Hill Fitness, so exercise is dominating my thoughts more than usual.

A funny thing I discovered lately is that I can work out at any time of the day. This may seem odd to you, but for the past three years, if I didn’t work out before 11am, I didn’t work out at all. I’d get up in my own head about not hitting the gym early in the day, then lunch would happen, then work would get busy, then afternoon meal came around… The excuses are endless.

A mate of mine trains 6 days a week and every time I see him, he’s talking about his workout. I’m sticking to him like glue. Whatever your goals are, get around people with the same goals who are actually doing something about it.

Action is infectious.

WhiteHillFitness.com.au launched this afternoon with a BANG! The site was flooded with visitors after only being live for a few minutes.

Keep on winning your fat loss battle, but if you’re struggling, THIS might help!

If you read my last post, you’ll be wondering what, if anything, I did to change my body.

Well, I did something. I set about losing a whopping 19kgs (41lbs)! I went from 95kgs to 76kgs (198lbs to 167lbs).

But the strange part for me, is that because I did not end up with SIX PACK ABS or bulging pecs, I’ve downplayed the whole thing. Sometimes I really do need someone to smack me upside the head.

How did I lose all this weight? The first part was both the easiest and the hardest. I just switched to salads and grazing. See, I sat at a desk all day long, driving a very boring PC, doing a job a nutless monkey could have done. For my previous colleagues sake, I hope they’ve developed automation. And in this low energy job, I found comfort in food. Delicious, sugary, starchy, carby food. My favourite was chicken, potatoes, melted cheese and baked beans. I am actually salivating as I write this.

But I took control back! Being stuck at a desk all day meant that I could control what food was in the fridge or in my desk drawer. So I switched to meat and salad at lunch and grazed on fruit and veggies all day. I drank water as though I was going to spend the next 5 days in the desert and subsequently frequented the men’s room more than – well I’ll leave it there.

My point is that taking control was the easy part and I lost 5kgs (11lbs) quickly and without exercising for a minute.

I then did nothing for 6 months, satisfied that I’d trimmed back to a reasonable 90kgs. I reduced my gut slightly and my trousers needed a much better belt, because they were sliding off.

After 6 months, though, I began to feel unimpressed with the weight I was havering at, and being back in Australia, I knew that a beach was never far away. So I set about shedding the rest of the weight and got down to 76kgs. The picture you see is me at 76kgs in October of last year.

Before and after!

It took me 8 weeks of intense workouts 3 days per week and strict eating to shift so much weight. It became a game getting up in the morning to see what I weighed.

What’s the point of this post?

I want to tell you that you can shift weight slowly, you can shift it quickly, it is entirely up to you. I spent a long time searching for the key to my motivation and I discovered that I had to commit myself heavily early on in order to keep my head in the game and eyes on the prize.

Next week, I’ll let you know what derailed me.

Keep your chin up, believe in yourself and find your motivation.
